THE WORK WE CAN HELP WITH

Follow the signal through the system.

Electrical support for the devices, terminals and control circuits used to monitor and operate equipment, with specialist experience in water treatment and pump systems.

Field instrument installation

Installation and wiring of instruments used to measure level, pressure, flow and other process conditions. Discuss the instrument, available documentation, signal type and existing system before the work is planned.

Signal & loop testing

Checks of instrument signals, including 4–20 mA loops, associated terminals and field wiring. Testing helps investigate a reading that is missing, inconsistent or different from what the equipment is doing.

Control panel wiring

Control wiring, panel modifications and termination work for industrial equipment and process systems. Support can cover relays, motor controls and the electrical connections between panels and field devices.

Control system fault finding

Investigate electrical and signal faults that affect equipment operation. Work through the reported symptoms, drawings where available and relevant wiring or device checks to establish the next practical step.

PRACTICAL SITE SUPPORT

Make sense of an unreliable signal.

A reading looks wrong

A pressure, level or flow indication is missing or inconsistent. Check the device, signal and wiring before deciding what needs attention.

Equipment will not respond

The expected command is present but the equipment does not operate, or a control circuit is not behaving as intended.

A fault comes and goes

An intermittent instrument or control issue may need conditions recorded over time to reveal a useful pattern.

FROM ALTOR’S SITE WORK

Instrumentation & loop testing.

This photograph shows labelled panel terminals and a process meter connected for signal testing. It is an example of the detailed electrical checks involved in investigating instrument and control system issues.

How the work is approached.

Altor works with operators, electrical contractors and equipment or control system suppliers on the agreed electrical scope. Findings can be discussed with the relevant team when the issue extends beyond the wiring or field device being checked.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions about controls & instrumentation.

Can you investigate why an instrument reading looks wrong?

Yes. Altor carries out signal and loop testing on field instruments and control panel wiring to trace where a reading is going wrong.

Equipment isn't responding to a control signal — how is that diagnosed?

The control circuit, wiring and logic are traced methodically to find where the signal is being lost or blocked.

Can you install new field instruments as part of a project?

Yes. Altor installs field instruments and wires them into control panels as part of new installations and upgrades.

What if the fault only shows up occasionally?

For intermittent faults, data logging and monitoring can record signals over time so the pattern is easier to identify.

SYDNEY & GREATER SYDNEY

Describe the signal or control issue.

Send the instrument or panel details, what you expect to happen and what is happening instead. Drawings, terminal references, signal types and fault messages are useful when available.
